CODE will hold an international symposium titled “Issues and Practices of Student-Centered Teaching and Learning” in the International Conference Room 301, Makuhari Messe, from 10 a.m. to 5:55 p.m. on Thursday, February 18, 2010. There will be no fee to attend the symposium and simultaneous translation between Japanese and English will be provided. For more information and registration, please go to

New Year’s Greetings

A happy new year! This is literally a new year for us as members of the Open University of Japan.

Last year, we were engaged in starting up a new organization in OUJ and defining our new vision. Subsequently, we will embark on innovations this year. In additon to sifting the inherited missions from NIME, we will endeavor to start off the following courses of action.

Shifting from higher education to life-long learning
Promoting OUJ’s exploitation of ICT for delivery and outreach
Participating in OUJ’s educational programs

Although I cannot introduce now, exciting plans are waiting in a queue. Please expect and be aware of activities of Center of ICT and Distance Education.
